BET Awards: Wizkid & Sarkodie win!

Nigeria’s Wizkid and Ghana’s Sarkodie walked off as joint winners of the Best International Act: Africa category at this year’s BET Awards.

The glitzy awards ceremony, which took place in Los Angeles, on Sunday, was attended by some of the biggest names in the game.

Sarkodie took to Twitter shortly after his win to thank his fans. “From da streets of TMA str8 2 @BET_Intl .... God has been too good 2 me.. Love ma fans promise we ll go higher justsave some love 4 me...”

Other winners on the night included Jay-Z and Kanye West who collected prizes in the Best Group and Video of the Year categories.

Their platinum-selling album Watch The Throne, was one of the most successful selling albums of 2011 and their tour has been met with huge acclaim worldwide.

On accepting the award Kanye said, “I’m bad at losing. I’m bad at winning. I’m always saying the wrong thing and I wish Jay-Z was here to say something politically correct for me.”

And with that Jay stepped on to the stage, hugged his friend and said, “Thank you. We really worked hard on this album. We didn’t rely on our name. We appreciate everybody, the tour, from here to Europe. We’re just going to keep making the best stuff.”

Beyoncé and Chris Brown also scooped awards in the Best Female and Best Male categories respectively.
