The Crown Troupe of Africa
presents Zainabu Jallo's 'Onions
Make us cry'. A touching play
which was longlisted for the 2010
NLNG Nigeria Prize for Literature.
Playwright and Poet, Zainabu
Jallo was a participant in 2008, at
an international residency
programme at the Royal Court
Theatre in London, at which she
was inspired to write Onions
Make Us Cry. In 2007, she was
involved in The new writing in
Drama project- a two-year
project involving workshops for
young writers that was facilitated
by the Royal Court Theatre UK,
in conjunction with the British
Council. Subsequently, she was
offered a literary fellowship at
the Global Arts Village in New
Delhi, India, where her play was
first presented to the public at a
reading. Onions make us cry,
Zainabu's second play deals with
emotions and tensions that arise
from domestic violence- a global
phenomenon. The play is
directed by Segun Adefila. Also
featuring performances by the
Amulegbajo Dance Company.
Dates: February 13th and 20th
2011. Time: 3pm & 5pm (2
shows) Venue: Terra Kulture,
Plot 1376 Tiamiyu Savage Street,
Victoria Island, Lagos. Gate fee:
N2,000 only, N500(children).
