The Central Bank of Nigeria on Thursday announced a comprehensive review of the structure of the nation’s currency that would lead to the introduction of a N5,000 bill as the highest naira denomination next year.

The N5, N10 and N20 notes  will also be converted to coins as part of the review.

The CBN Governor, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, who made the announcement while briefing journalists in Abuja, said the bank would, early next year, introduce the N5,000 note.

Sanusi said the new N5,000 note would have the portraits of three women who fought for the country’s independence.

They are Mrs. Margaret Ekpo, Mrs. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti and Hajiya Gambo Sawaba. In addition, Sanusi said the back of the N5,000 note would have the picture of the National Assembly complex.

Hmmmmmm What do you think about the #5000 note?

  3. Please Say NO! A CAPITAL NO to Sanusi's N5,000 note. I know many people don't like broadcasts but we must act now to save our nation! A N5000 note with the obliteration of theN5, N10 and N20 notes to coins is as good as saying Pure water will be N50. Even if i can afford it, how many people can afford it? In a Nation where coins are taboo, that will spell COMPLETE doom! He did not end at that, N50, N100, N200, N500 & 1000 are going to be re branded. Do ƔoU̶̲̥̅̊ know how much that will cost? Into 100s of trillion, that is more than 20 years budget. In fact, I don't have a suitable word to explain this but I know this is madness. What happened to Cashless Nigeria? Only God knows Sanusi's intention.
Please let's fight this fight to save our country! #ourtimestartsnow
