The Marketing and Sponsorship Sub-Committee of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 18th National Sports Festival said on Tuesday that some companies were already identifying with the goals of the fiesta.
The festival is scheduled to hold in Lagos from Nov. 27 to Dec. 9.
The Secretary of the LOC, Kweku Tandoh, said in a statement in Lagos that such companies included the bottlers of Coca-Cola, the Nigeria Bottling Company Plc and motor vehicle dealers, Alliance Autos.
Others, according to the statement, are: Greenlife Pharmaceutical Company Ltd and Nigerian Breweries Plc.
It added that the committee would approach more companies.
The statement also said that the sub-committee, chaired by the Asoju-Oba of Lagos, Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas, was making frantic efforts to woo financial institutions to partner the state in staging the biennial event.
It would be recalled that during the unveiling of icons for the festival, Lagos State Gov. Babatunde Fashola, had assured Nigerians that the state would deliver a ``private sector-driven’’ Games.
``For Lagos, it will be nice to win the festival, but more importantly, we hope to discover more talents at the fiesta that will bear our torch at the global level.
``With Lagos as the commercial nerve centre of the country, I believe if we cannot deliver a private sector-driven festival, I doubt if there is any state that can do it.
``Hosting the festival is part of our commitment to sports and we intend to provide more facilities for our youths so that they can take part in sports.
``For Eko 2012, we are committed to putting up a good show and I believe it will help to bring us back to the right path, from our sports wilderness,’’ the statement quoted Fashola as saying.
