» Ekiti shuts 35 illegal private schools
Ekiti State Government has closed down 35 private schools operating in the state.
The government said they were “sub-standard and unregistered private schools.”
This was contained in a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Sunday by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Eniola Ajayi.
This brings the number of schools closed down so far in the state to 166.
Ajayi said private schools that could not meet the standard set by the state government would not be allowed to operate.
She reiterated the commitment of the state administration to the provision of a conducive learning environment that would enable student perform excellently and stressed that government would not compromise the future of children in the state.
She said, “Proprietor who could not afford to run standard schools should bow out gracefully. The government will continually fish out sub-standard and unregistered schools in the state.
“The minimum standard expected from the proprietors include operation on their permanent site after three years of establishment, registration by government, four standard classrooms at inception, functional library, separate laboratory for physics, chemistry and biology for secondary schools.”
According to her, other requirements include availability of quality teachers and principal with at least five years teaching experience as well as adequate and suitable furniture and the availability of at least four standard toilets.
