 The girl, known only as "Dafne," gave birth to her baby on January 27 in Zoquipan Hospital, in Zapopan, Mexico's western Jalisco state. The baby weighed 5.95 pounds.

"The girl was just over eight when she got pregnant. The father is a boy who is 17, but we have not found him, since he ran away," Dafne's mother says.

Surgeons at the hospital delivered the infant by Caesarean section.
